Credit Counselor reports to Supervisor. Advise customers on Division's credit policies and answer customer's questions concerning commercial deposits, delinquent accounts, discounts and rates; order services connected or disconnected; and grant or refuse credit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Research and discuss delinquent bill problems with customers; refer customers to agency; grant or refuse credit extensions on unpaid balances. Provide information on customer requests or complaints concerning Division's billing, service, credit and deposit policies; compute and pro-rate bills; and adjust accounts as required. Determine commercial and residential deposits; determine proper identification on Residential deposits.
Advise customers as to Division credit policies, ways to save on utility bills and resolving bill payment problems at paying agencies, and assist in working out extended pay plans for customers. Hold hearings and research credit history for various reasons such as to determine customer's credit history, itemize accounts, determine customer's liability, and process service orders. Prepare refunds on deposits, overpayments to customer, listings, records, tickets, reports, etc. Insure that commercial deposits have sufficient deposits and signed contracts before approving meter service tickets. Originate connects and release blocked accounts after appropriate meter service tickets. Originate connects and release blocked accounts after appropriate investigation of account information; determine charges on damaged property. Block accounts when investigations shows evidence to do so. Reinstate charge-offs, credit and debits. Research Community Service Agency payments on customer's account to determine balance after grant is applied. Answer telephone, give and receive information, and relay messages. Operate Division vehicle, computer input/output equipment, and microfilm equipment. Perform other duties as directed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Must pass Division Data Entry Exercises, Group C. Must be fluent in Spanish in Areas 520830, 520870, 520840 and 520850.* Must successfully complete Customer Service Simulation Test. Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds or more of force on a regular basis.
