KIPP Memphis Public Schools is part of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program), a national network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, public schools that are successful in helping students develop the knowledge, skills, character, and habits needed to succeed in college and the competitive world beyond. There are currently 275 KIPP schools across the nation serving nearly 120,000 students. Position Overview
The Accountant II will support the region's portfolio of federal and state grants through the preparation of reimbursement requests and the collection, evaluation, and organization of supporting documentation. The role will also support the collection and processing of other receivables through the preparation of invoices, journal entries, and other schedules and documents as necessary. They will report to the Managing Director of Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Accountant II include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the month end and year end closing process.
- Review grant expenses and supporting documentation for grant compliance and allowability
- Assist with the tracking of grant agreements, award amounts, and remaining funds to be spent (public and private)
- Assist in grant reporting and provide information and backup documentation as needed
- Research and resolve transaction errors and re-class as needed
- Make necessary revisions to correct coding for grant reporting
- Provide internal technical assistance to schools and finance staff regarding the allowable uses of federal funds
- Balance bank reconciliations for cash and other various accounts
- Produce various financial reports to assist with budget and grant analyses
- Assist with managing the receipt of cash from all schools and facilitate the deposits of cash to the bank
- Assist with the management and oversight of adherence to the Cash Receipt Policy and Procedures document
- Prepare and review cash and check deposits for monthly financial close and maintain physical and digital records
- Prepare revenue-related schedules and journal entries for the monthly close
- Assist with annual financial audit and support additional monitoring visits/audits as necessary
- Assist with the Internal School Fund reconciliations and procedures
- Assist with grant reconciliations and reimbursement requests
- Prepare reconciliations for cash and investment accounts
- Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP Memphis staff
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting
- Two or more years related accounting experience
- Understanding of accounting principles including accrual accounting
- Demonstrated expertise in Excel spreadsheets, particularly with formulas and other functions
- 2+ years of experience accounting.
- Open to making a multi-year commitment.
- Proven success in relationship building and maintenance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines with fidelity.
- Experience working with racially, ethnically, socioeconomically underserved students and families.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and handle ambiguity.
- Ability to accept and implement professional feedback.
Preferred:
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- Prolonged periods standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
- Must be able to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students
