OVERVIEW
The Instructor, Childcare is responsible for coordinating activities of assistant group supervisors and aides, assisting the director with designated activities, the creation of a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of the children with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards;
• Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets;
• Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages the learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies;
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner;
• Implementing curriculum, completing lesson plans, and providing activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children;
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
• An Instructor, Childcare shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
(1) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
(2) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training).
(3) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children
4) A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in § 3270.31(c).
(5) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
• Availability to work on a variable schedule;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff;
• Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs;
• Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment;
• Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people; and
• Good sense of humor and pleasant, diplomatic manner is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
• Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
• Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
