One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.
As a key member of the team, the Self-Management Programs Assistant provides the essential coordination and administrative support required for the successful delivery of Self-Management Programs across the region. This role involves scheduling workshops, managing participant registrations, and communicating with clients and volunteer leaders to ensure they have the resources they need. Ultimately, the Program Assistant acts as a vital point of contact, making self-management education accessible and effective for individuals throughout Northwestern Ontario.
The salary for this position is $24.04 per hour. We currently do not use AI to screen resumes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A recent graduate from a post-secondary diploma or degree program in Health Promotion, Public Health, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Previous experience (including volunteer, student placements, or part-time work) in a program support, administrative, or coordination role, preferably in a non-profit, healthcare, or community-based setting.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the capacity to help coordinate workshops, manage schedules, and meet deadlines.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), with a compassionate approach to interacting with clients, volunteers, and community partners.
• Familiarity with creating promotional materials using tools like Canva, and an understanding of managing social media accounts for professional outreach.
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, while also being comfortable completing assigned tasks independently.
Eligibility
This is a NOHFC funded opportunity. The applicant must be 18 years of age or older, an Indigenous resident of Northwestern Ontario (including First Nation, Metis, or Inuit) and either newly entering the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or is unemployed or underemployed and is entering a new field, reside in Northern Ontario, and legally entitled to work in Canada. The applicant must not have previously participated in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) People and Talent Program.
