DIRECTV is seeking a strategic and results-driven Sr. Director of Software Engineering to lead the development and operation of software solutions. This role focuses on enhancing mission-critical systems supporting customer self-service, authentication, and real-time data pipelines, requiring extensive experience in software delivery and team management.
Responsibilities:
- Manage application release trains for delivery of prioritized business functionality
- Hold upstream product teams accountable for input quality and on-time delivery of requirements; partner with them to drive end-to-end efficiency
- Guide the teams in building delivery strategies that anticipate risks and improve quality and predictability of delivery
- Drive technical delivery excellence and efficiency through modern delivery techniques, including pipeline automation and AI-aided productivity
- Ensure that non-functional requirements are in place and comply with relevant regulatory standards and industry best practices, particularly in compliance, security, reliability, and performance
- Facilitate and resolve schedule and budget challenges that arise as requirements change or technical roadblocks interfere with delivery. Solve problems in a way that balances time to business value, program priorities, and technical team efficiency
- Engage with operations teams to support recently launched functionality, coordinating defect prioritization and prioritizing product change requests
- Advise business partners on technical solutions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally within a subscription industry
- Implementation experience with high-volume, low-latency data pipelines in cloud environments
- Hands-on implementation experience with identity and access management (IAM) platforms (e.g. ForgeRock/Ping, Okta)
- Mature full-stack development and team management experience
- Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, empathy, and support
- Expertise in project management and development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.) and tools (e.g., Jira)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic, data-driven approach to decision-making
- Proven experience driving business value through technology delivery
- Master's or relevant advanced degree
