The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

OVERAGE POSITION

This position is an overage. Funding for this position will be re-evaluated on a fiscal year basis.

POSITION DESIGNATION

This job classification has been designated as a cyber security sensitive job classification effective June 26, 2023, in order to comply with United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s Criminal Justice Information Services Security Policy (Version 5.9.2, 12/07/2022), 5.12 Policy Area 12 Personnel Security. The policy requires national fingerprint-based records checks be conducted prior to granting access to criminal justice information for all personnel who have unescorted access to unencrypted Criminal Justice Information (CJI) or unescorted access to physically security locations or controlled areas (during times of CJI processing). Employees in this job classification will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Interstate Identification Index (III) Fingerprint Background check after receiving a conditional offer of employment. Additionally, employees in this job classification must complete the required CJIS Security and Privacy Training and pass the online certification test.

JOB SUMMARY

This job is located in the Mobile Integrated Healthcare Section of the Operational Services Division of the Fire Department within the City of Oklahoma City. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) provides support services as part of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) team. The PRSS uses training, lived experiences, and interpersonal skills to educate the public and provide support to clients experiencing substance misuse and/or behavioral health crises.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operating a City vehicle to respond to non-emergency behavioral health and substance abuse calls.
Providing peer recovery support services to clients experiencing substance misuse disorder, behavioral health crises, and co-occurring needs.
Utilizing lived experience, training, and interpersonal skills to engage, support, teach, and mentor clients in recovery.
Assisting with crisis stabilization and de-escalation in non-emergency situations.
Identifying client needs related to well-being, recovery, harm reduction, and access to support services.
Applying an integrated care and harm-reduction approach to promote client safety and well-being.
Establishing rapport with clients to build trust and promote productive engagement with other personnel and service providers.
Educating clients, community partners, and stakeholders on recovery resources, proper Narcan use, and available program services.
Promoting the program’s mission to reduce opioid use disorder through community outreach and education.
Providing non-emergency transportation to homeless shelters, urgent recovery clinics, inpatient care, or other community resources.
Advocating for clients while assisting with access to community services.
Collecting and documenting data to track progress, outcome and service delivery.
Performing other duties as assigned.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Possession of a valid Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification (C-PRSS).
Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).

Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.
