ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
PRIVACY & RESPONSIBLE TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly-motivated attorney who is passionate about public service to join her office as an Assistant Attorney General in the Privacy and Responsible Technology Division (PRTD). The Division, which is part of the Attorney General’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau, investigates and litigates cutting-edge issues in emerging technology. The Division works to address unfair or deceptive use of consumer data, to maintain data security and privacy, and to address technologies that can manipulate consumers, including minors.
Primary Duties: Independently, and as part of a team, take part in litigation and investigations surrounding data security, data privacy, and online or digital abuses. Advance case progress, through depositions, motion practice, and document productions. Duties also include learning new industries and technologies, investigating and identifying practices that may violate the law, collaborating with other state and federal enforcement entities, and negotiating resolutions that serve the public interest. There are also opportunities to assist in educational and policy work to protect privacy interests and prevent the unfair and deceptive use of technology.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt.
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.
Location: This position may be based in the Boston Office, Springfield Regional Office, Worcester Regional Office, or New Bedford Regional Office. Office location will be determined based on the candidate’s expressed preference and space availability. For a candidate based in the Springfield, Worcester, or New Bedford Office, travel to the AGO’s Boston office is expected approximately 1-3 times per month.
Salary: $87,500-$130,595, commensurate with JD year.

Position Requirements:
· Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.
· At least five (3) years (which may include judicial clerkships) of complex litigation experience is preferred.
· Familiarity with Massachusetts consumer protection laws and data security laws, preferred.
· Clear and persuasive written and oral communication skills and legal research capabilities.
· Effective organizational skills, time management abilities, and attention to detail.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate on differing matters with teams whose members have various experience levels and skill sets.
· Sound and thoughtful judgment and decision-making skills.
While expertise in matters concerning technology is not required, a candidate should demonstrate an eagerness and ability to learn complex concepts and effectively explain them to a court, jury, or the public. Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date. Candidates who are not yet admitted may be hired as ‘Counsel’ and must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar within one year of their start date.
