The emphasis is on timely visual content to enhance storytelling online and in print, while thriving in a fast-paced news environment with tight deadlines.
What You’ll Do:
• Capture high-quality photographs and videos to meet daily needs for all platforms, working remotely with the newsroom.
• Participate in daily news meetings and enlist your experience to help shape our visual agenda to illustrate stories.
• Edit and process photos and videos using industry-standard software to meet tight deadlines.
• Collaborate with reporters and editors to develop compelling visual narratives.
• Contribute to team planning for coverage of major events, high-profile stories, special projects/features and other assignments.
• Upload and organize photos and videos into Postmedia's photo management system for use as stock and file visuals.
Who You Are:
• An experienced news photographer with exceptional skills and a strong portfolio demonstrating news judgment, composition and lighting expertise.
• A visual storyteller, able to convey context in news, sports, entertainment and business settings and work with reporters and editors to maximize visual story potential, including for non-traditional formats.
• Able to prioritize assignments and pivot to changing needs as news cycles demand.
• Comfortable taking direction, but unafraid to pitch and advocate for compelling visual approaches that others don’t see.
• Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, as well as photo management systems such as Photo Mechanic.
• Proficient in video shooting, editing, and production.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as circumstances demand.
• You have a valid Ontario driver’s licence and a personal vehicle
