The Director, Platform Product Management – FinOps will lead the strategy and execution of the platform's cost transparency, optimization, and governance capabilities, working at the intersection of engineering, product, and finance to enhance operational efficiency and financial accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the FinOps platform strategy and roadmap , aligned with engineering, product, finance, and leadership goals
- Identify opportunities to improve cost transparency, economic efficiency, and financial accountability across the platform
- Build and scale the FinOps capabilities required to support a growing platform ecosystem
- Build capabilities for granular cost attribution and allocation across platform capabilities, services, tenants, and environments
- Enable showback and chargeback models that provide clear accountability for platform consumption
- Deliver visibility into cost drivers across infrastructure, services, and product workloads
- Define and operationalize platform unit economics , linking infrastructure usage to product and business outcomes
- Deliver insights into metrics such as cost per transaction, cost per API call, cost per tenant, and margin by product capability
- Provide analytics that inform product pricing, packaging, and revenue strategy
- Enable continuous cost optimization through insights, recommendations, alerts, and automated controls
- Partner with engineering teams to embed cost-aware architecture, capacity planning, and operational practices
- Identify opportunities to improve resource utilization, efficiency, and platform margins
- Establish FinOps governance frameworks , including budgets, forecasting, policies, and guardrails
- Define and track KPIs such as budget variance, cost efficiency trends, and optimization impact
- Create mechanisms that drive financial accountability across platform and product teams
- Integrate FinOps capabilities with metering, billing, observability, cloud provider tooling, and financial systems
- Partner with data and engineering teams to ensure accurate, scalable cost intelligence and reporting
- Work closely with multiple product teams, engineering leaders, finance partners, and platform stakeholders to drive adoption of FinOps capabilities
- Serve as the FinOps thought leader and advisor to platform leadership and product teams
- Communicate complex platform economics clearly to both technical and business audiences
Requirements:
- 10–15 years of product management or platform leadership experience, with senior leadership exposure
- 5+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, or infrastructure economics
- Experience working with SaaS platforms, cloud-native infrastructure, or large-scale distributed systems
- Hunter mentality with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and build new platform capabilities from the ground up
- Experience operating in large-scale platform environments supporting multiple product teams
- Proven ability to drive initiatives from concept to adoption in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Active practitioner in FinOps, cloud cost management, or platform economics, with hands-on experience in cost attribution, cost optimization, or financial governance
- Strong understanding of cloud cost models, distributed systems economics, and infrastructure cost drivers
- Experience building or operating cost transparency, showback/chargeback, or unit economics capabilities
- Proven ability to work across engineering, product, platform, and finance teams
- Experience influencing engineering and product decisions through cost insights and financial data
- Ability to engage with platform consumers or customers to understand usage patterns and drive adoption
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex infrastructure and cost data into clear business insights
- Ability to influence stakeholders through data-driven insights, storytelling, and governance mechanisms
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Familiarity with FinOps and cost management tools such as Cloudability, CloudHealth, Kubecost, or native cloud cost management platforms
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field
