Position Overview This position is responsible to provide operational support in mitigation efforts in a field environment. The primary function of the Hazmat Supervisor is to perform tasks related to Hazardous Material Removal using a variety of specialized equipment. This position will also require supervision and direction of the Hazmat Techs to ensure they meet production and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Build containment areas prior to beginning abatement or decontamination work.
- Assemble temporary equipment or structures.
- Perform personal air samples.
- Train employees as required on job techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.
- Conduct a fit test the first day of the week and on the first day of a new job for all employees who are required to wear respirators.
- Document all work completed on the job each day along with the materials/equipment used on the job on a Daily Job Report.
- Meet with management and customers to obtain complete understanding of job requirements before project start up.
- Take disciplinary action when any Technician or Crew Leader working on the job is in violation of Company policy, regulatory standards, or site-specific rules.
- Perform Daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and maintain in clean serviceable condition.
- Comply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods.
- Record operational or environmental data.
- Drive trucks or other heavy equipment to convey contaminated waste to designated sea or ground locations.
- Load or unload materials used in construction or extraction.
- Decontaminate equipment or sites to remove hazardous or toxic substances.
- Operate machines or equipment to remove, package, store or transport loads of waste materials.
- Prepare hazardous waste for processing or disposal.
- Sort specialized hazardous waste at landfills or disposal centers, following proper disposal procedures.
- Proper use of cleaning/disinfectant solutions and removal techniques of debris from contained areas.
- Report time worked and equipment and consumables used timely and accurately.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
- Additional duties as required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must have current Lead Certification.
- Must have current Hazardous Waste Certification.
- Understanding of MSDS protocols.
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of customer service, principles and practices.
- Will be required to work nights and weekends as requested and travel periodically.
- Must maintain attention to detail.
- Be able to work under time constraints to meet specific timelines.
- Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR's vehicle policy.
- Possess sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
- English language literacy and fluency.
Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time).
- Access and mobility in tight spaces.
- Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
- Ability to use mobile devices for collection of data and time.
