As a Field Service Engineer II, you will perform installation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated analytical and electron microscopy equipment while building strong customer relationships and ensuring systems operate at peak performance.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site installation, repair, calibration, testing, and maintenance of electron microscopy systems, including:
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electronic, vacuum, and software-related system issues
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to maintain system performance and reliability
- Serve as a primary technical resource for assigned customers and territory
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, system users, and internal teams
- Provide technical support to customers and assist other field service engineers with troubleshooting activities
- Travel frequently to customer sites, sometimes on short notice, to resolve service issues
- Submit detailed field service reports and maintain accurate service documentation
- Provide customer training on system operation, maintenance, and best practices
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and quality standards in laboratory and industrial environments
- Provide feedback to product quality, engineering, and service teams regarding system performance and improvement opportunities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field OR equivalent combination of education and technical experience
- 3+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating complex analytical instrumentation such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems
- Experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum systems and high voltage equipment
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to travel up to 75% within assigned territory
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environments
- Proficiency in English required, additional languages beneficial
- Strong electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues to the component level
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, electrical schematics, and system diagrams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service management software
- Ability to effectively train customers on equipment operation and maintenance
