Commonwealth Associates, Inc. is an ENR Top 500 engineering and consulting firm specializing in innovative design and planning solutions for power generation and renewable energy integration. The Project Engineer will lead large EPC projects, ensuring successful delivery through coordination with stakeholders and management of project teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage large EPC projects from inception to completion, ensuring all project goals are achieved
- Represent the client’s interests, ensuring compliance with all project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Supervise and coordinate internal project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and communication
- Oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of power delivery infrastructure
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, facilitating clear and effective communication
- Conduct site visits as needed to monitor project progress, address issues, and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets
- Work closely with a Project Manager to develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget
- Coordinate design and engineering activities across various departments (e.g., Civil/Structural, Physical/Electrical, Systems Studies, Power Generation, P&C, etc.)
- Implement quality control measures to ensure all project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications
- Identify and mitigate project risks to ensure smooth project execution
- Work independently and provide direction to less-experienced Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and Designers
- Mentor, train, and supervise junior team members
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 6+ years of multi-disciplinary design experience in substations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design software
- Understanding of grounding and lightning protection systems
- Experience with high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) substation design
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration and grid interconnection standards
- Proficiency in using project management software such as MS Project or Primavera

- Testing and Commissioning Support
- Equipment FAT Support
- Familiarity with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, or similar
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and their integration with substation equipment
- Familiarity with protective relay coordination and settings
- Data Center Experience
