General Description and Classification Standards:
Performs safety inspections and coordinates, manages, and plans maintenance for equipment to ensure safe and continuous operation of assigned water facility, operation, or system.
Supervision Received:
Works under minimal supervision. May assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associate, apprentice, or semi-skilled employee in the work group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Investigates reported equipment concerns and takes corrective action to ensure that all issues with the equipment are handled efficiently and effectively.
• Assists in developing the safety program which may include proper equipment usage training, corrective measures, organizational policy changes, etc.
• Prepares written requirements for equipment purchases and maintains an accurate inventory of parts and equipment.
• Manages work requests; reviews emails and phone messages on a regular basis.
• Communicates effectively with division personnel, outside professionals, and the general public.
• Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Applies organizational policies and may interpret organizational policies and recommend exceptions.
• Provides guidance and training as required to lower-level interns, temporary employees, etc., to ensure safe and continuous operation of the DWM-Fleet equipment.
• Manages and coordinates the daily maintenance and repair of City owned cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and small engine equipment.
• Coordinates and monitors operations of DWM fleet services staff; reviews and controls quality of work
• Recommends improvements and modifications in operations and processes to ensure the most effective utilization of staff and resources; prepares various reports on operations and activities in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
• Evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively recommends initial disciplinary action. Acts as a resource regarding assigned functions and projects to staff, other City departments, and management; answers questions and provides information; investigates issues and concerns and recommends corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints in a satisfactory and timely manner.
• Prepares and/or reviews accident/incident reports and other documents; develops and maintains related files. Ensures the investigation of accidents and determines cause; determines corrective action to be taken.
• Makes recommendations for disposition of unserviceable or obsolete equipment.
• May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of tasks, methods, tools, and processes related to the safe and continuous operation of assigned DWM-Fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in utilizing computer equipment and standard office and database software necessary to file and maintain maintenance and inspection records and reports.
• Ability to use hand and power tools for installation and repairs.
• Ability to use a key cutter to create new or duplicate keys. to read and follow complex instructions, plans, schematics, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience –
1. High School diploma or equivalent and
2. two (2) years of skilled work experience in a related area.
Licensures and Certifications - Class II driver’s license
Preferred Requirements - Associate’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of directly related experience.
Work Environment:
Required: physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Job will typically be indoor and outdoor and require work outdoors in inclement weather.
Lifting Requirements:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. Walking or standing for periods of 30 minutes or more.
