The Aviation Structural Engineering, Lead Associate will provide structural engineering support to Army Aviation customers, applying advanced techniques to evaluate design alternatives and ensure airworthiness qualifications.
Responsibilities:
- Provides structural engineering support to Army Aviation customers by applying classical structural methods and advanced finite element modeling techniques to; evaluate possible new design alternatives, repairs, and/or redesign efforts
- Performs fatigue analysis/ fracture mechanics evaluation, investigates accidents causing personal injury/illness or property damage and recommends measures that can be taken to prevent reoccurrence
- Provides technical expertise to the airworthiness qualification/release programs standard configurations and/or alterations/modifications to standard configurations
- Will apply top technical expertise in, recommending technical/test requirements, specifications, acceptance criteria and measuring programs consistent with, and in the definition of, design criteria, including statements of work and airworthiness qualification specifications and plans
- Analyses structural design criteria, stress, internal and external loads, finite element modeling, strength and margins of safety, statistical evaluations, and structural design
- Provides fatigue test requirements and test plan definition and evaluating fatigue test results; providing flight load survey test plan definition, determining fatigue methodology requirements; and analyzing and reviewing design and production drawings
- Tests plans and reports for laboratory and flight tests, and field support documents such as depot maintenance work requests, technical manuals, and quality deficiency reports
- The position requires experience and the ability to perform detailed and complex calculations, including classical stress analysis techniques, finite element modeling techniques, fatigue/fracture mechanics analysis techniques, and aerospace structures design, plus knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced systems concepts, assess specifications and perform system integration
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years with BS/BA, 3 years with MS/MA, 0 years with PhD
- Experience in Aircraft Structural Analysis with a degree in Engineering
- Understanding of statistical reliability for engineering structures
- Understanding of Classical Stress Analysis Techniques, Finite Element Modeling Techniques, Fatigue/Fracture Mechanics Analysis Techniques, and Aerospace Structures Design
- Understanding of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced systems concepts, assess specifications and develop structural airworthiness requirements
- Experience performing Finite Element Analysis using Patran, FEMAP, or ANSYS
- Experience with CAD modeling and reading engineering drawings
- Knowledge of structural bench testing, static and fatigue of aircraft structural components
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
- Experience with analysis of rotor head (dynamic) components a plus
- Experience with composite structures is desired
