Position Summary
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides Occupational Therapy services to patients of all ages/populations/diagnoses, under the direct supervision of the treatment plan delineated by the Occupational Therapist; assists the Occupational Therapist in patient treatments and carries out departmental duties as assigned. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant shall be supervised by the Occupational Therapist according to Federal and State Guidelines.
Qualifications/Experience
Education:
Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program approved by the American Occupational Therapy association.
AR licensed or eligible for licensure.
Experience:
Prefer one year's experience.
Other Skills:
Desirable characteristics include a proficiency in written and verbal communications, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
Licenses/Certificate:
Licensed or eligible for license in Arkansas as a COTA.
Essential Job Functions

- Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of SARH
- Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.
- Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action.
- Must participate in safety instructional programs.
- Provides quality group therapy to patient.
- Possesses basic skills necessary to perform specific OT procedures.
- Performs all treatments based on the evaluation/treatment plan for the patient’s OT services.
- Consistently monitors treatments and consults with the OT for changes.
- Documents involvement of patient/family in treatment/home program.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform directed treatment activities independently.
- Completes/maintains documentation in a timely manner per policy.
- Completes billing list daily so that accounts can be billed.
- Completes daily/weekly productivity summary.
- Assists with Quality Improvement Plan of the department.
- Maintains effective communication with all customers.
- Attends hospital meetings, committee meeting, in-services as requested by Director.
- Gives at least 2 in-services/year.
- Notifies designated person of supply needs.
- Assists in maintaining a clean environment.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- Always seeks guidance when in doubt about a patient, procedure, etc…
- Utilizes good body mechanics and uses gait belt with transfers.
- Is professional with the Director and supports direction/work of the department.
- Maintains professional skill level as documented by attendance at in-services, etc…
- Assist other staff and Director as needed.
