LexisNexis is a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools for professional and business customers. The Data Visualization Engineer will enhance the Lex Machina platform by creating visual representations of complex legal data and collaborating with legal experts and engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
- Write code using JavaScript, React, D3, and SVG to display complex legal data in information-rich visualizations for easy customer use
- Write code using Python and Pyramid to retrieve and arrange data for best use in visualizations
- Design with an eye to accessibility, usability, and positive user experience
- Work with our legal experts to integrate new legal subjects and cases into a multi-use front end ecosystem
- Spend time learning about new technologies to improve our visualization techniques
- Collaborate with Natural Language Processing Engineers to decide how best to incorporate newly extracted information
- Your code will be reviewed by other members of the engineering team, and you’ll review their code too
Requirements:
- Design and develop information-rich analytics software professionally for 3+ years
- Write code in one of: JavaScript, TypeScript, CoffeeScript, etc., as well as HTML and CSS/SASS
- Arrange complex bodies of legal data into useful and easily understandable visualizations could be a fun project
- Work well in a team-oriented organization due to your excellent communication skills and empathy
- Bachelor's degree in visual communications, graphic design, or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, code academy, or work experience
- React or D3 expertise is preferred
- Python or Elasticsearch experience is a plus
- PostgreSQL experience is great; SQLAlchemy understanding is fantastic
- Reviewable code samples or community participation
