Seattle Kraken is building a championship organization that serves fans and partners through sports and entertainment. The Data Engineer will be part of the Hockey Operations Research & Development team, responsible for building and maintaining data infrastructure for player evaluation, trade analysis, and real-time decision making.
Responsibilities:
- Building tools that help hockey operations staff make better decisions, faster
- Ability to take loosely defined data requirements and deliver practical solutions
- Choosing simple, reliable solutions over clever ones
- Owning outcomes from problem through delivery, including incorporating user feedback
- Shipping iteratively and learning from how the data is actually used
- Noticing data quality or reliability issues early and addressing them proactively
- Eagerness to learn the domain, grow as an engineer, and be open to mentorship
Requirements:
- 1+ year of data or analytics engineering experience in a production environment
- Ability to independently design and maintain data pipelines in Python
- Experience with ETL development, data modeling, and data warehousing
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases at scale
- Comfort working directly with non-technical users and translating their feedback into product decisions
- Clear written communication and the ability to work with high autonomy
- Experience with AWS or a similar cloud ecosystem
- Experience with a modern data stack: cloud warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), orchestration (Airflow/dbt) and pipeline tooling
- Experience working with high-frequency spatial or event-stream data (e.g. NHL puck and player tracking, optical tracking systems, or similar)
- Passion for hockey or sports
