Varsity Tutors, a Nerdy Company, is seeking online Structural Engineering tutors to join their Live Learning Platform, which connects thousands of students nationally. Tutors will have the flexibility to set their own schedules and provide personalized instruction to help students succeed in their academic pursuits.

- Accept on-demand tutoring requests whenever you're available
Requirements:
- Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of structural analysis methods, reinforced concrete design, steel design, timber design, foundation engineering, lateral force analysis, structural dynamics, and building code requirements
- Ability to explain moment distribution, plastic analysis, seismic design principles, and load path analysis while preparing students for structural engineering courses, the PE examination, and professional structural design practice
- Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down indeterminate structure analysis, reinforced concrete beam design, and steel connection detailing
- Guides students through computing member forces, designing beams and columns, analyzing lateral load systems, and applying building code provisions including ACI and AISC specifications
- Emphasizes code-based design methodology and connects structural engineering to high-rise building, bridge, and seismic-resistant design applications
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with structural engineering curricula and common challenges such as analyzing indeterminate structures, applying code provisions, and designing for combined loading conditions
- Adapts instruction using structural analysis software, code reference materials, and design problem sets to support advanced undergraduate and graduate civil engineering students preparing for structural specialization and PE licensure examinations
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs
