They are seeking a Wood Structural Engineer to design and oversee the development of structural wood frameworks for residential houses, ensuring safety, sustainability, and compliance with building codes.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop structural frameworks using wood for residential houses, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance with building standards
- Collaborate with architects, builders, and project managers to integrate structural designs into overall construction plans
- Analyze architectural plans and materials to determine structural needs, load-bearing capacities, and construction techniques
- Perform structural calculations to ensure the framework meets all safety and building codes
- Specify and select appropriate wood materials for the construction, balancing sustainability, cost, and performance
- Oversee and inspect construction sites to ensure that the wood structural framework is built according to design specifications and standards
- Identify potential design and structural issues and recommend cost-effective solutions
- Stay updated with the latest building codes, material innovations, and construction techniques for wood structures
Requirements:
- PhD in Structural Engineering, or related field
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural design, specifically in wood or timber construction
- Strong knowledge of wood construction techniques, load-bearing analysis, and material properties
- Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000)
- Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety standards related to wood structures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with architects, contractors, and clients
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with sustainable or green building practices
- Knowledge of timber frame construction or mass timber products like CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber)
