General Dynamics Information Technology is a global technology and professional services company delivering consulting and mission services. They are seeking a Performance Data Engineer to support a key Federal agency by managing the full lifecycle of ETL application development and maintenance, providing data modeling expertise, and leading engineering efforts for a cloud-based Data Lakehouse platform.
Responsibilities:
- Provides data modeling expertise and performance-tuning guidance to optimize ETL workloads and database queries, including those supporting MicroStrategy reporting within the EDS Application
- Lead the engineering of a scalable, cloud-based Data Lakehouse platform, known internally as the Unified Analytics Platform (UAP), powered by Databricks and hosted in Microsoft Azure to enhance enterprise data governance, observability, and operational value
- Application development and maintenance efforts that provide direct technical assistance
- Provide remote support on a 24×7 on-call basis. This will provide support for production server applications, installation and upkeep of ETL solutions, and the delivery of complementary services required to meet customer and business needs
Requirements:
- 15 + years of related experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field is highly preferred
- 15+ years of hands-on data modeling and querying experience
- Focus on development and maintenance of applications providing ETL services in support of the Postal Data Asset Services group
- Significant experience with the Teradata optimizer is required
- The ability to read SQL 'explain' plans and take action to effectively utilize the massive parallel nature of the database engine
- Must have Teradata SQL, due to business logic embedded in the queries
- Must have a thorough understanding of the internal 'DBC Accounting' information to effectively measure the performance of application code
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
- A working knowledge of how MicroStrategy and other OLAP tools interact with Teradata
- Knowledge of Ab Initio tools, architecture, process and analytics
- A working knowledge of the major competing Data Warehouse modeling techniques (Third-Normal-Form and Dimensional modeling) and how data modeling decisions affect the performance of ETL, structured report queried, and unstructured data analysis
- A working knowledge of GDE (Graphical Development Environment - used by Ab Initio)
- A working knowledge of Web API development
- A working knowledge of storing, reading and analyzing streaming data – i.e., Kafka, MQSeries, or similar technologies, such as JMS
