Job Summary:
Procures and maintains the pharmaceutical inventories for the inpatient pharmacy. Assists with inventory management, contract compliance and stock management responsibilities. Oversees the pharmacy inventory systems.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- State Pharmacy Techncian license: Required in CA and OR
- Pharmaceutical Technician Board certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
- State Pharmacy Technician (PTC): Required
Essential Functions:
- Locates, evaluates and selects cost-effective supply sources. Considers contractual obligations and product availability. Updates and maintains ordering and inventory control system, including purchasing and inventory records. Sets reorder points to maximize inventory turns while maintaining adequate supply level.
- Makes rounds to the nursing units to exchange patient medication cassettes. Returns unused IV admixture to the pharmacy for credit. Picks up pharmacy documents. Mixes IV additive and chemotherapy as required.
- Efficiently maintains departmental outdates and drug return program. Processes all drug recall notifications including the removal of identifiable lots from shelves and proper return of items to wholesaler or manufacturer source.
- Prepares medications and pharmaceutical supplies for the pharmacist to check prior to dispensing to the patient. Prepares usage reports to monitor purchasing patterns and trends. Assists director, clinical specialist, and others in analysis of drug purchases. Monitors formulary compliance.
- Processes invoices for payment in a timely manner including approval, reconciling product received against items billed, and matching packing slips to invoices. Coordinates purchases for and charges to various interdepartmental and external accounts.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
