Virtual Labs is seeking an experienced Mainframe Automation Engineer with strong expertise in IBM Z System Automation. The role focuses on modernizing and optimizing automation frameworks on IBM Z systems, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support z/OS automation migration projects, specifically:
- Migration from CA OPS/MVS to IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS
- Migration from CA Automation Point to IBM Systems Automation for Integrated Operations Management (SAIOM)
- Convert existing OPS/MVS rules and REXX execs into IBM System Automation-compatible configurations
- Implement and manage policy-based automation (PDB - Policy Database)
- Work on system startup, shutdown, and automation workflows in z/OS environments
- Provide operational support, troubleshooting, and consultancy for automation-related issues
- Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure high availability of critical systems
- Support installation, configuration, and tuning of IBM automation tools
- Participate in system monitoring, alerting, and event-driven automation design
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in mainframe operations / automation / support roles
- Strong hands-on experience with: TSO/ISPF, JCL, REXX, PIPE REXX, OPS REXX programming
- System Automation Policy Database (PDB)
- Proven experience in: z/OS Automation Migration projects
- NetView for z/OS
- IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
- Knowledge of z/OS system operations, including: System startup & shutdown processes, Configuration and automation frameworks, SMP/E
- Experience with: Competing automation tools (e.g., Broadcom/CA tools)
- Fully automated system configurations on IBM Z
- Exposure to SAIOM (System Automation for Integrated Operations Management)
