Red Oak Technologies is seeking a Principal Cloud Database Platform Engineer with a specialization in distributed database systems. This role involves architectural ownership and hands-on implementation to build and operate resilient, large-scale data platforms in modern hybrid and cloud-native environments.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and deploy highly available, open-source database ecosystems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MariaDB, TiDB) across geographically distributed environments
- Own performance tuning, replication integrity, and system reliability — diagnosing and resolving complex issues end-to-end
- Build and enhance infrastructure automation using Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD frameworks
- Design and implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies across environments
- Contribute to network-aware platform design, supporting cross-region communication and failover strategies
- Participate in production support, including incident response and on-call rotations
- Collaborate closely with software and infrastructure teams to establish scalable architecture patterns and operational standards
Requirements:
- Advanced expertise in Linux systems (RHEL derivatives, Ubuntu), including system-level troubleshooting and package/toolchain management
- Demonstrated success operating distributed database systems in high-availability, multi-region deployments
- Strong experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code practices
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals in distributed and hybrid infrastructure environments
- Programming/scripting experience (Golang and/or Python) for automation and internal tooling
- Proven ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex platform issues without reliance on managed services
- Strong communication skills and the ability to partner across engineering disciplines
- A track record of applying real-world experience to solve practical infrastructure challenges
