Chewy is seeking a Senior UX Engineer – Design System to help architect and scale the design system powering our web platforms. This role focuses on building scalable UI foundations that enable teams to deliver consistent, accessible, and high-quality user experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and build composable, extensible UI primitives using React and TypeScript
- Develop business-logic-agnostic components that scale across teams and domains
- Design and implement theming systems and CSS architecture (design tokens, CSS variables)
- Ensure compliance with WCAG accessibility standards and ARIA best practices
- Define patterns for component composition, API design, and state boundaries
- Partner with Design to translate Figma systems and tokens into code
- Create documentation, tooling, and guardrails to drive adoption and consistency
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support integration and scalability
- Optimize performance and maintainability of shared component libraries
- Contribute to frontend platform and design system strategy
Requirements:
- 5+ years of frontend development experience
- Expertise in React and TypeScript, including advanced component patterns
- Strong knowledge of CSS architecture and theming systems
- Experience building reusable component libraries
- Deep understanding of accessibility (WCAG, ARIA, semantic HTML)
- Experience designing systems used across multiple teams
- Strong focus on developer experience and API design
- Experience with enterprise design systems
- Multi-theme or multi-brand architecture experience
- Familiarity with design tokens and automation pipelines
- Experience with Storybook, MDX, or documentation systems
- Knowledge of performance optimization and frontend tooling
- Experience working with Rive animations or similar interactive motion frameworks
- Background in e-commerce or large-scale consumer platforms
