Switch is a company that designs, builds, and operates data centers, aiming to create advanced digital infrastructure for humanity. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design for data center projects, ensuring design quality and system performance while collaborating with external partners and internal teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical system design for new and existing data center projects
- Own design decisions for power distribution, UPS systems, generators, grounding, and protection schemes
- Review and direct work from external engineering consultants
- Ensure designs meet Switch standards, codes, and performance requirements
- Develop and improve electrical design standards, specifications, and processes
- Identify design risks and resolve issues early in the project lifecycle
- Partner with construction, operations, vendors, and utilities to align design and execution
- Support equipment selection, qualification, and performance validation
- Contribute to continuous improvement in cost, constructability, and reliability
- Travel up to 25% for site reviews, design coordination, and stakeholder meetings
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 7–10 years of electrical design experience in data centers or other mission-critical facilities
- Experience designing medium- and low-voltage power systems
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UL, ANSI, and related codes and standards
- Experience managing external engineering consultants across design phases
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, and calculations for accuracy and completeness
- Experience working with utilities, AHJs, and cross-functional project teams
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with large-scale or campus-style data center developments
- Experience supporting both greenfield and retrofit projects
