Stack Overflow is a leading community-based platform focused on enhancing productivity and innovation. They are seeking a Senior Sales Engineer to serve as a technical expert for enterprise accounts, leading technical discovery, designing solutions, and collaborating with various teams throughout the customer lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical win for new and expansion opportunities such as running discovery, designing solutions, and delivering demos that connect customer problems to measurable outcomes
- Run deep technical discovery that goes beyond requirements gathering. You’re uncovering the real pain (not just filling out a checklist) and sharing those insights with the AEs, SAMs, Value Engineering, and Professional Services so the whole team is working from the same picture
- Design and present solutions across our product portfolio, including authentication architectures, enterprise integrations, and end-to-end persona based AI/knowledge workflows
- Serve as the technical advisor to Account Executives (AEs) and Strategic Account Managers (SAMs) throughout deal cycles—RFPs, security reviews, procurement, executive presentations
- Partner with Professional Services on scoping and handoffs, ensuring what was sold is what gets delivered
- Coordinate with Forward Deployed Engineering on internal initiatives and customer implementation work, ensuring technical alignment between what the SE team designs in pre-sale and what FDE delivers in production
- Collaborate with CXS post-sale to identify underutilization, surface new use cases, and support renewal health
- Build and share what works: reusable demo environments, competitive intel, and enablement content for the broader go-to-market team
Requirements:
- 5+ years in a pre-sales technical role (Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, Solutions Consulting) supporting enterprise SaaS customers
- Track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder deal cycles from discovery through close at six- and seven-figure ACV
- You're a builder. You don't wait for someone to hand you a demo script or a talk track. You create environments, author content, develop tools, and find ways to make your team better
- Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns including SSO, SAML, OAuth, and SCIM, as well as integrations with developer tools like Slack, Teams, GitHub, Jira, or ServiceNow
- Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted developer workflows: copilots, MCP servers, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and knowledge grounding. You should be able to demo these tools, explain how they fit into an enterprise stack, and speak credibly about where developer productivity is heading
- Ability to build, improve, and showcase developer workflows that incorporate AI tooling. Not just talk about what's possible, but show customers what it looks like in their environment
- Understanding of the technical KPIs that matter to technical and engineering leaders (cycle time, time to resolution, knowledge reuse, onboarding velocity) and the ability to connect our products to those metrics in a way that resonates
- Comfort with API-based architectures and the ability to explain how APIs, webhooks, and data ingestion pipelines create real customer value
- Excellent communication skills. Equally effective presenting to a CTO and whiteboarding with a platform engineer
- Consultative by nature. You lead with questions, not feature lists
- Self-directed and comfortable in a remote-first, high-autonomy environment
- Experience in developer tools, knowledge management, or collaboration platforms
- Background in technical writing, technical architecture diagrams, or documentation strategy
- Experience working cross-functionally with Professional Services, Value Engineering, and Customer Experience Strategist teams
- Practical exposure to LLM deployment, grounding strategies, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) in enterprise settings
