Crescent Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Principal Battery Project Engineer to lead the technical execution of large-scale energy storage projects. This role involves shaping the design and delivery of high-impact battery storage systems from concept through commissioning, working at the forefront of the renewable energy transition.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and engineering of major components for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), providing expert oversight throughout the project lifecycle
- Review and optimize engineering drawings and studies, proactively identifying and resolving technical issues to improve design quality, efficiency, and performance
- Develop technical scopes of work for contracts and collaborate closely with project managers, cross-functional teams, and external suppliers to ensure successful project delivery
- Influence engineering decisions, manage project milestones, and anticipate and mitigate technical and execution risks
- Partner with suppliers to successfully integrate critical equipment, including power electronics, battery systems, and balance-of-plant components
- Support permitting efforts by providing technical input and recommending practical site design improvements
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by solving complex technical challenges and enhancing system integration and controls
Requirements:
- 10–15+ years of relevant industry experience, with a minimum of 7+ years specifically in solar/PV engineering and/or construction
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: power electronics, battery storage system design, substation design, or generation tie-line design
- Strong working knowledge of energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion systems, and DC/DC converters
- Solid familiarity with key safety and performance standards for lithium-ion battery storage systems (UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, and relevant IFC/IBC sections)
- Familiarity with IEC standards 61215, 61646, and 61730
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse technical and project teams
- Willingness to travel approximately 25% for project-related activities
