Dataprana is a North American digital infrastructure company focused on AI and high-performance computing data center development. The Civil Engineer – Data Center Site Design lead will be responsible for early-stage site design, turning land and utility information into actionable designs while collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Responsibilities:
- Develop first-pass site plans that integrate building footprints, access, grading, and drainage, including zoning exhibits and preliminary stormwater concepts to support land control decisions
- Produce "Day 0" electrical concepts, including single-line diagrams and indicative pole, substation, and electrical routing aligned with utility standards and Dataprana design patterns
- Translate utility standards, interconnection requirements, and protection philosophies into clear, actionable civil and electrical design criteria for internal and external stakeholders
- Assess local codes, zoning ordinances, and permitting pathways to ensure early concepts are compliant and to flag approval risks before the company advances spend
- Identify fatal flaws in candidate sites (e.g., drainage constraints, infeasible pole routes, right-of-way conflicts, or constructability challenges) and clearly document risks and mitigations
- Build a repeatable early-design playbook that allows Dataprana to quickly and efficiently validate site feasibility
- Partner with development and power leads to refine promising sites into shovel-ready concepts that can be advanced into formal engineering and utility review
Requirements:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering in the state of Texas
- 5+ years of experience in data center or critical infrastructure design, with direct exposure to high-density AI/HPC power and cooling layouts
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or similar software) for site planning, grading, and utility coordination
- Demonstrated experience navigating zoning boards, planning commissions, and municipal review processes, including preparation of zoning and entitlement exhibits
- Track record working with utilities on technical reviews, interconnection studies, or service extensions, including coordination around pole lines, substations, and protective schemes
- Proven ability to manage multiple early-stage sites in parallel, prioritize based on risk and impact, and communicate design tradeoffs clearly to non-engineers
- Basic working knowledge of electrical principles
- Prior experience in data center development, grid-connected energy projects, or large industrial sites with complex drainage and grading requirements
- Familiarity with permitting and environmental review considerations that affect early site design (stormwater, wetlands, floodplains, and similar constraints)
- Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where you help define standards, templates, and processes from scratch
