Oracle is a leading technology company that brings together data, infrastructure, applications, and expertise to drive industry innovations. The Senior Director, SCADA and Controls Engineering will lead the strategy and engineering standards for data center controls systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations across a global portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Define global controls strategy for BMS/EPMS/BAS/SCADA capabilities aligned to OCI's reliability, scalability, and security requirements
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and reference designs for controls systems (including topology, protocols, naming conventions, alarming philosophy, historian requirements, time sync, and redundancy)
- Own the controls portions of Architect Design Guidelines (ADGs), templates, Basis of Design (BoD), and design specifications to enable repeatable deployment across multiple site types and project models
- Drive standardization of approved components, vendor qualification criteria, and lifecycle management (e.g., obsolescence planning, spares strategy, patching windows)
- Lead controls engineering teams (internal and partner resources) delivering designs across the entire OCI portfolio
- Provide technical direction to ensure BMS/EPMS/SCADA designs integrate effectively with mechanical, electrical, controls, network, and security requirements
- Govern project execution through milestone design reviews, compliance checks, and exception/waiver management; ensure issues are documented, risk-assessed, and resolved
- Ensure designs are constructible, modular, and support speed-to-market without compromising reliability or safety
- Define controls commissioning criteria, functional testing standards, and acceptance requirements (including integrated systems testing)
- Establish alarming, event management, and escalation philosophies that support operations at scale and reduce alert fatigue
- Drive reliability programs such as redundancy validation, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), incident postmortems, and continuous improvement actions for controls systems
- Partner with operations to ensure usability, maintainability, and training readiness for new deployments
- Ensure controls platforms meet enterprise security and compliance expectations, including segmentation/zone models, identity/access controls, logging, and secure remote access patterns
- Partner with security and network engineering to define approved architectures for OT/controls networking, protocol enablement, and monitoring
- Ensure documentation, change control, and configuration management practices support auditing and operational rigor
- Build strategic relationships with key controls vendors and integrators; manage performance, deliverables, and alignment to standards
- Influence cross-functional stakeholders and executive leadership on controls-related priorities, investments, and risk tradeoffs
- Support sourcing and contract language development for controls scopes (standards adherence, cybersecurity clauses, commissioning deliverables, SLAs)
Requirements:
- 12+ years in mission-critical/data center engineering, including 7+ years leading controls/BMS/EPMS/SCADA engineering or equivalent OT systems
- Demonstrated experience delivering controls systems for large-scale data centers or critical infrastructure (e.g., hyperscale, colocation, industrial, utility, semiconductor)
- Experience developing scalable tag standardization frameworks and naming conventions to ensure consistency across campuses and enable portfolio-level analytics
- Familiarity with MQTT, OPC UA, BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, and other industrial communication protocols used in large-scale data center environments
- Experience implementing secure remote access architectures and cybersecurity best practices for distributed controls systems, including network segmentation and role-based access control
- Demonstrated ability to lead fleet-wide controls standardization efforts across new builds, retrofits, and operational campuses
- Expert knowledge of: BMS/BAS architectures, EPMS monitoring, and SCADA/historian patterns
- Redundant system design, alarming/event management, and controls commissioning
- OT networking concepts (segmentation, resiliency, time sync) and secure remote access fundamentals
- Proven leadership experience managing senior engineers and external engineering/integration partners across multiple concurrent projects
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical detail into clear standards, governance outcomes, and executive-level decisions
- Experience with AI/HPC infrastructure demands and high-density thermal/electrical monitoring requirements
- Familiarity with common protocols and integration methods (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, OPC UA) and enterprise telemetry pipelines
- Experience establishing global standards programs (templates, reference designs, waiver processes, component approvals)
- Understanding of sustainability/efficiency metrics and how controls strategies support energy and water optimization
- BS in Electrical/Mechanical/Controls Engineering or related field; advanced degree a plus
- Deep expertise with Ignition SCADA (Inductive Automation), including enterprise architecture design, gateway network configurations, tag strategy, historian architecture, security hardening, and large-scale deployment across multiple mission-critical facilities
- Proven experience designing and deploying enterprise-level SCADA architectures that integrate numerous geographically distributed data centers into a unified operational dashboard
- Demonstrated success aggregating and normalizing telemetry from multiple sites (BMS, EPMS, PLCs, RTUs, meters, environmental monitoring, etc.) into a centralized data platform to enable fleet-wide visibility, benchmarking, and performance optimization
