Charles Evans Hughes Elementary School is seeking a Temporary School Clerk I to provide operational coverage during an anticipated employee leave of absence.
This position is temporary and contingent upon district staffing needs and leave determinations. This assignment does not constitute a permanent vacancy and may be modified or discontinued based on CPS staffing decisions.
The Temporary Clerk I will support daily school operations to ensure continuity of services.
Under the general direction of the school principal, performs specialized clerical functions in a large public school setting or a variety of responsible clerical duties in a smaller public school. Performs related duties as required.
Prepares and types correspondence, memoranda, and reports using a personal computer or other office equipment as directed by the principal or designee.
Opens, sorts, and distributes mail and school correspondence.
Serves as receptionist; greets and directs visitors appropriately.
Schedules appointments for school administrators.
Receives and places telephone calls for school personnel.
Responds to inquiries from students, parents/guardians, and the public regarding school operations.
Maintains student and staff attendance records.
Processes and prepares payroll documentation using manual and computerized systems (e.g., timekeeping and payroll platforms).
Maintains enrollment records and processes student transfers.
Maintains student history records and compiles transcripts as needed.
Prepares requisitions for supplies, instructional materials, furniture, and equipment.
Maintains and monitors petty cash and internal account ledgers.
Issues checks and prepares deposits.
Compiles and forwards required reports related to payroll, attendance, enrollment, and school accounts.
May utilize spreadsheet, database, and word processing software applications.
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
One (1) year of clerical work experience.
Ability to type 45 words per minute with fewer than 10 errors;
OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of modern clerical office methods, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of standard office equipment and technology.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with school personnel, students, parents/guardians, and the public.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software is highly desirable.
Strong recordkeeping, mathematical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Work primarily involves sitting, with occasional walking or standing.
