The Gund Company is an industry leader in manufacturing and fabricating specialized engineered materials. They are seeking an experienced Area Sales Engineer to build relationships and solve customer problems, focusing on growth in Italy by partnering with OEMs and industrial customers.
Responsibilities:
- Execute a disciplined sales process to research, prospect, qualify, and win new business—communicating our capabilities, responsiveness, and quality standards
- Develop and expand our presence in Italy by building relationships with existing accounts and targeted prospects
- Lead high-volume customer and prospect communication (phone and email) and complete proactive sales/service calls as a core monthly requirement
- Serve as a technical expert in customer applications—translating needs into material recommendations and value-based solutions
- Manage the order acquisition process for assigned accounts, coordinating internally to ensure accurate communication, strong service, and on-time delivery
- Use CRM tools to document activity, opportunities, and next steps—ensuring consistent follow-up and forecast accuracy
- Travel to customer sites to uncover requirements, drive specifications, and strengthen partnerships; participate in training/meetings in Augsburg, Germany
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (required)
- Fluent Italian and English (required)
- Near Milan, Italy with the ability to travel throughout Italy and to Augsburg, Germany facility (required)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, confidence in customer-facing conversations, and a proactive, relationship-driven approach
- Critical thinking and the ability to build and run strategies that create competitive advantage
- Strong computer skills and comfort with CRM-based selling
- 2–5+ years of experience in sales engineering, technical sales, or applications engineering (preferred)
- Background in one or more of the following industries: Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace, Industrial, Plastics/Composites
- Experience selling engineered-to-order solutions (custom components, fabricated parts, or application-specific materials)
- Track record of growing a territory through prospecting, consultative discovery, and value-based selling
