ob Role: Senior Data Governance Engineer (Microsoft Purview)
Location: Canada- USA Remote
Year of Experience: 10-15 Years
Role Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Data Governance Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Microsoft Purview to design and deliver enterprise data governance solutions. The role focuses on metadata management, data lineage, classification, and regulatory compliance across cloud and hybrid data platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Microsoft Purview implementations including Data Map, scanning, classifications, glossary, lineage, and governance policies
- Onboard and govern data sources across Azure and hybrid / multi-cloud environments
- Define and implement data governance frameworks, including data ownership, stewardship, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs)
- Implement data classification, sensitivity labels, and compliance controls (GDPR, CCPA, SOX, etc.)
- Establish end-to-end data lineage to support analytics, reporting, and audit requirements
- Collaborate with data engineering, security, compliance, and business teams to embed governance into data pipelines
- Support metadata standards, stewardship workflows, and data catalog adoption
- Automate governance processes and track governance KPIs and metrics
Required Qualifications:
- Overall 10-15 years of experience in Data & Analytics
- 5+ years of experience in Data Governance / Data Management
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview implementations
- Strong understanding of:
- Metadata management
- Data lineage
- Data classification
- Data stewardship
- Experience with Azure data platforms such as:
- Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
- Azure Synapse
- Azure Databricks
- Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- Power BI
- Ability to translate regulatory and business requirements into technical governance solutions
- Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have:
- Experience with other governance tools such as:
- Alation
- Collibra
- Informatica EDC / Axon
- Atlan
- Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM) tools (Reltio, Informatica MDM)
- Experience with automation using Python or APIs
- Background in regulated industries (Financial Services, Healthcare, Insurance)
Experience:
- 5 10 years of relevant experience in Data Governance / Data Management
Requirements
Required Skills :
- 5-8 years of Data Governance policy implementation experience using tools such as MS Purview (Mandatory), Collibra (optional), Informatica AXON / DG, Attacama
- 5-8 years of experience in datawarehouse, datamart, Cloud data services such as ADF, Databricks, Unity Catalog, Cloud data storages (Azure SQL Server, Cosmos DB, Synapse etc., ) , BI tools like PowerBI, Tableau
- 5-8 years of coding / programming experience using Python, Pyspark
