Food Service Worker Job Description
The Food Service Worker serves as a cafeteria worker helping in all steps of food presentation, setup, serving, and sanitation of the kitchen and dining room.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of tasks having several steps or a sequence of tasks that require attention to work operations in a kitchen, and the dining area following established procedures.
- Set up and replenish cafeteria lines, steamtables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items, including meat, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages.
- Assemble or toss fresh fruit and green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portions into standard serving sizes.
- Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
Dining Hall:
- Clean all tabletops and ensure that all counters and windowsills are free from dust.
- May assist in ensuring that all dining facility floors are swept and mopped daily.
- Ensure that all napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, and condiments dispensers are full before and after each meal.
Kitchen:
- Remove all dishes from the collection station and wash according to HACCP standards.
- Wash all dishes, pots and pans and utensils in accordance with the HACCP standards.
- Clean other kitchen equipment daily, or as needed.
Requirements:
- Must follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow established sequence of work
- Demonstrated history of related food service experience preferably with a major institution or the military is desired.
- ServSafe certification preferred; may be required if hired.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work in a standing position in the dining facility and kitchen area for 6 to 7 hours (excluding break and lunch periods)
- Some bending and stooping
