Olsson is a company that engineers and designs solutions to improve the world around us. They are seeking a Controls Design Engineer - BMS to design instrumentation and control systems for Data Centers, managing tasks related to BMS system design and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure proper construction and functionality of systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the selection and specification of:Process instrumentationProgrammable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) equipment or (DDC) Direct Digital Controls
- Develop and approve control system (BMS) sequences of operations
- Manage assigned BMS design tasks including scope, schedule, and quality
- Perform technical review and approval of instrumentation and control system deliverables
- Review submittals, conduct field inspections, and verify compliance with design intent
- Independently analyze and resolve complex technical problems within the engineer’s discipline
- Act as technical lead, supervisor, and resource to the design team
- Train, mentor, and support the education and professional development of staff
- Participate in the preparation, review, and approval of RFP response content and pricing
- Demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills, organization, flexibility, and collaboration
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Travel to project site visits as needed, roughly 15-35%
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions
- Ability to independently resolve complex problems within the engineering discipline
- 6+ years of experience designing BMS or control systems
- Attention to and passion for detail, quality, and system reliability
- Experience acting as a technical resource or supervisor to design teams
- Ability to support staff education, mentoring, and professional development
- Participation in proposal development, including RFP technical content and pricing support
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Willingness to actively participate in the engineering and professional community (seminars, conferences, publications)
