Traylor Bros., Inc. is a respected tunneling firm specializing in technically demanding underground projects. The Tunnel Drill and Blast Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and completion of tunnel and shaft construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to budget and schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement detailed project plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and cost estimates
- Oversee the tunnel and/or drilling and blasting operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards
- Oversee installation of conventional excavation support including shotcrete, rock bolts, mine strap, steel ribs, and wire mesh, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards
- Manage procurement of equipment, materials, and labor necessary for tunneling projects
- Coordinate with engineering teams to assess geological conditions and adjust drilling and blasting and ground support strategies as needed
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits related to tunnel construction activities
- Lead a multidisciplinary project team, including engineers, supervisors, drill and blast crews, and subcontractors
- Assign roles and responsibilities to team members and monitor performance to ensure project goals are met
- Provide training, guidance, and support to staff involved in the tunnel construction process
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations, including explosives handling and site safety protocols
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential risks
- Develop and implement risk management plans to address geological, technical, and operational challenges
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, including progress reports, budget analysis, and risk assessments
- Manage contract negotiations and resolve disputes with subcontractors and suppliers
- Monitor project budgets and financial performance, identifying and addressing variances
- Implement cost-saving measures without compromising safety or quality
- Analyze project performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in tunnel construction, including drill and blast methods and installation of ground support
- Proven experience managing large-scale infrastructure projects with budgets exceeding $10 million
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, ground support systems, and blasting techniques
- Ability to obtain Blaster's License in local jurisdictions
- Proficient in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage complex projects under pressure and tight deadlines
- Master's degree
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Experience working in challenging geological conditions (e.g., hard rock, mixed ground)
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations specific to tunnel construction
- Expertise in risk management and mitigation strategies for underground construction
