Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Natural Gas Engineer to support their Natural Gas Distribution Service Operations projects throughout Colorado and the Western United States. The role involves performing independent engineering and design work, managing tasks with minimal supervision, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering functions, including investigations, evaluations, calculations, and specifications, for design and drafting projects
- Develop engineering drawings, designs, and documentation for small to medium-sized projects
- Apply engineering techniques and procedures to assignments requiring independent judgment and technical expertise
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other engineers to define project scope, monitor progress, and review deliverables
- Supervise the collection of field data, vendor information, and other resources necessary for project execution
- Coordinate design efforts to meet client specifications, project budgets, and schedules
- Ensure designs meet applicable standards, including:49 CFR Part 192: Federal safety standards for natural gas pipelines
- ASME B31.8: Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems
- ASME B31: General pressure piping standards
- Perform quality control checks on designs, calculations, and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Provide guidance to junior engineers and designers, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing
- Assist in developing and refining project workflows, design templates, and standards
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline required
- 5+ years of experience in engineering or a related technical field
- Proficiency in engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Civil 3D
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment
- PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
- Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems, including pipelines and compressor stations
- Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory compliance for the natural gas industry
- Experience managing small to complex design projects
