The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the physical design of high-voltage substations and mentor early-career engineers, ensuring high-quality designs and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform physical design of high-voltage substations (69 kV – 500 kV) in transmission and distribution networks
- Create layout drawings, general arrangements, grounding plans, conduit/cable schedules, and equipment drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Bentley Substation
- Partner with protection & control (P&C) and civil/structural engineering teams to ensure high-quality, constructible designs, and schedule adherence
- Conduct grounding analysis, bus design, equipment configuration, and quality checks to support reliable and safe operation
- Review design packages in compliance with NESC, IEEE, and client standards
- Mentor and inspire early-career engineers, fostering technical growth and team collaboration — you’ll be a technical leader and a role model
- Support proposal efforts and provide input on project scoping, schedule, and cost estimating for new projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and an active PE license
- 8+ years of experience in substation physical design for utilities, EPCs, or consulting firms
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and familiarity with Bentley Substation or other substation design tools
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment layouts, grounding systems, and bus design
- Working understanding of relay coordination, control schemes, SCADA, and substation automation principles
- Excellent communication, project leadership, and mentoring skills with a strong eye for detail and quality
