POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Finance. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department dedicated to excellence in teaching, impactful scholarship, transformational student mentorship, and community engagement. This position is a full-time on campus role. Start Date: Fall 2026

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000

RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching/Student Support
• Teach undergraduate courses as required, within the finance curriculum
(e.g., Corporate Finance, Investments, Financial education courses,
Analytics/Strategy, Financial Markets & Institutions, International Finance,
Financial Management, and related areas, including supporting and
prerequisite courses) consistent with the UMES mission to students with
different backgrounds, including first generation college students and non-
traditional learners.
• Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
• Advise, tutor, and mentor students to promote academic progress, secure
internships, and provide career development.
• Contribute and participate in curriculum
development/improvement, program accreditation, and
assurance-of-learning activities.
Research
• Conduct and publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed academic
journals consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) qualifications and
university tenure/tenure track requirements.
• Present research at professional conferences and participate in
collaborative scholarly initiatives.
• Associate-level applicants must demonstrate an established record of high-
impact research and disciplinary visibility.
Service
• Actively participate in departmental, school, and university committees.
• Provide service to the academic profession and engage in community and
industry outreach aligned with the mission of a land-grant institution.
• Actively contribute to and participate in the departmental recruitment,
retention and student engagement activities in alignment with the
department’s accreditation standards and the university’s HBCU mission of
service.
Qualifications required:
• Ph.D. in Finance or related field from an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Evidence of strong research potential or productivity.
• Demonstrated potential for or record of effective teaching and oral
communication skills
Preferences:
• Ability to teach finance, including supporting and prerequisite courses, in
various instructional formats.
• Active scholarly pipeline as evidenced by manuscripts under review or
accepted.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Candidates with corporate or additional non-academic financial industry
experience
• Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CFP) or relevant industry experience.
• Experience mentoring students or supporting experiential learning.
• For Associate rank: demonstrated potential to pursue or secure external
research funding.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students as evidenced by
strong teaching evaluations or recognized teaching excellence.
Physical Demands:
• May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at
desk.
• May require lifting.
• Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and
internally.
• Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
