Holman is a family-owned, global automotive services organization that is seeking a Director of Cloud & Platform Engineering. The role involves strategic leadership in defining enterprise compute strategies, overseeing cloud migration initiatives, and managing budgets for data center operations while ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the enterprise compute strategy, aligning with business goals
- Lead the transformation from legacy infrastructure to modern cloud-native environments
- Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap for data center modernization and cloud adoption
- Oversee the planning and execution of cloud migration initiatives (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Ensure seamless integration between on-premises systems and cloud platforms
- Evaluate and select cloud providers and tools based on business needs and technical fit
- Manage budgets for data center operations and cloud services
- Implement cost governance frameworks (e.g., FinOps) to monitor and optimize cloud spend
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and cloud service providers
- Design and implement high-availability architectures across on-prem and cloud
- Develop and test disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans
- Ensure compliance with RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) targets
- Monitor and optimize the performance of compute resources across environments
- Implement observability tools and practices (e.g., logging, monitoring, alerting)
- Ensure SLAs are met for critical business applications and services
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce security policies across all compute environments
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, ISO27001, NIST)
- Coordinate with other teams to manage identity and access controls, encryption, and data protection strategies
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams including infrastructure, cloud engineers, and architects
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Identify skill gaps and invest in training and development programs
- Manage relationships with hardware vendors, cloud providers, and managed service partners
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership and business stakeholders
- Translate technical initiatives into business value and ROI
- Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., edge computing, AI/ML infrastructure)
- Evaluate and pilot new tools and platforms to improve agility and efficiency
- Promote automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and other cloud best practices
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree, ideally in a related field required, Master's preferred, or equivalent experiences
- Proficient in productivity and collaboration tools, knows how to leverage AI, certifications in cloud – especially Azure – are desired
- 8+ years' experience, including 5+ at a leadership level; multiple levels of reporting relationships strongly preferred
- Extensive knowledge and experience within own function and general knowledge of areas, departments and/or function(s) within and across other disciplines
