Job Title: Tool Designer / CAD Engineer
Location: Boulder, CO
Duration: Contract
Responsibilities
- Strong experience in soft goods tooling design including fixtures, cutting tools, bonding tools, forming aids, jigs, and assembly fixtures
- Hands-on expertise in CAD modeling for softgoods (2D patterns & 3D geometry) using tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, Creo or equivalent
- Solid understanding of textiles, microfibers, synthetics, silicone, polymers, and adhesives
- Experience translating industrial design intent into manufacturable tooling concepts
- Familiarity with DFM / DFx principles for softgoods and rapid prototype environments
- Ability to support fast iteration cycles (EVT/DVT/NPI-style builds)
Roles & Responsibilities
- Study product drawings, specs, and industrial design intent for phone cases, wallets, watch bands, audio straps, and accessories
- Generate tooling concepts and CAD models for softgoods fabrication and assembly
- Convert product concepts into manufacturable tooling solutions for prototyping and PDF builds
- Support pattern engineering by converting 3D geometry into 2D constructs where applicable
- Collaborate with:
Prototype assembly/fabrication teams
Machine technicians
Product testing teams
- Support DFM reviews, tolerance checks, and tooling feasibility assessments
- Enable rapid iteration to compress build cycles and reduce rework
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Prototyping, Fabrication, Testing, and Factory-support teams
- Act as the bridge between design intent and shop floor execution

- Exposure to consumer electronics softgoods or wearable ecosystems
- Experience supporting EVT/DVT or pilot production builds
