Job Summary/Description:
Are you a relentless truth-seeker who refuses to settle for the surface story? Do you believe that investigative journalism isn’t just about the "big reveal" on the 6 o'clock news, but about owning the narrative across every screen a person touches? First Alert 4 is looking for an Investigative Producer to lead our award-winning I-Team. We need a strategist and a storyteller who can take a complex data set and turn it into a digital-first powerhouse, someone who knows that real impact happens when you combine deep-dive reporting with a modern, multi-platform mindset.
Duties/Responsibilities (but are not limited to) the following:
What You’ll Do:
• Steer the I-Team pipeline: Own the daily direction and long-term organization of our investigative unit, moving stories from the first tip to the final multi-platform rollout.
• Drive digital-first execution: Lead a strategy that embraces non-traditional storytelling, ensuring our investigations reach the largest possible audience on streaming, social, and web (not just linear TV).
• Uncover the "Why": Mine data, identify hidden patterns, and expose trends that go beyond the headlines to drive meaningful change in the St. Louis region.
• Build the workflow: Create repeatable, rock-solid systems for tracking public records, managing data, and following up on leads so nothing falls through the cracks.
• Collaborate for impact: Work side-by-side with newsroom leadership and multimedia teams to ensure every investigation meets the highest editorial and legal standards.
• Shape the future: Integrate investigative reporting into First Alert Forward, our solutions-oriented show focused on the future of our community.
• Manage the front lines: Oversee the investigative tip line—triaging leads, documenting sources, and ensuring we are responsive to the community we serve.
• Celebrate excellence: Organize and lead our station’s award entries, showcasing our team’s hard work for Emmy, Murrow, and other top journalism competitions.
Why You’ll Love It Here:
• High support, high expectations: We provide the resources and the runway for long-term investigative excellence; we want you to do your best work here.
• Real community impact: Your work will directly influence the future of the St. Louis region through our First Alert Forward initiative.
• Innovation-first culture: Gray Media is evolving, and First Alert 4 is at the forefront of that digital transformation.
Ready to lead the most impactful I-Team in St. Louis and make your mark? Let’s create something that matters.
Qualifications/Requirements:
What You Bring:
• Major market experience: You’ve spent at least 5 years producing high-impact investigations in a fast-paced newsroom.

• Editorial muscle: You have a proven track record of shaping complex narratives into clear, accountability-driven reporting.
• Digital fluency: You’re ready to break traditional TV conventions to build stories specifically for streaming and social audiences.
• Persistence and curiosity: You’re a self-starter who doesn't take "no" for an answer when a story matters.
• Collaborative spirit: You know how to lead reporters, photographers, and digital teams toward a shared vision.
• Discretion and integrity: You handle sensitive information and sources with the highest level of professionalism and care.
• Impact-oriented: You don't just want to "do a story"; you want to drive community engagement.
