ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Food Service Worker at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.
Key Role:
• Provide support to cafeteria operations at a research facility.
• Work as team member and/or independently in a cafeteria kitchen.
• Responsible for the operation of a small cafeteria.
• Plan and direct the overall kitchen operations including purchasing, inventory control, and food production and planning menus.
• Perform tasks concerned with preparation and serving of food and beverages.
• Set up and break down food counter.
• Assists in preparation of hot and cold meals, salads, soups and desserts for cafeteria takeout use.
• Operate cafeteria equipment such as dishwasher, meat slicer, small kitchen appliances, etc.
• Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware.
• Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
• Prepare a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
• Package take-out foods or serve food to customers.
• Portion and wrap the food or place it directly on plates for service to patrons.
• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed and provide cooks with needed items.
• Wash, peel and/or cut various foods to prepare for cooking or serving.
Basic Qualifications:
• HS Diploma or GED, 2 years’ experience assisting with cafeteria operations.
Physical Requirements:
• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.
• Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.
