Description
About the Position
We're hiring a backend developer to join our research group and build the systems that power our open source intelligence collection and thought leadership work. You'll partner directly with the researchers on the team — taking the prototypes, scrapers, and data pipelines they spin up to answer hard questions, and turning them into production-grade products with solid architecture behind them.
This is a strong individual contributor role. You'll own backend projects end-to-end, from design through deployment, and you'll have a lot of autonomy in how you get there.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, build, and maintain the systems that collect open source intelligence at scale
- Build and own the APIs that other engineering teams use to consume that intelligence
- Take research prototypes from "it works on my machine" to robust, observable, production-ready services
- Shape the architecture and data pipelines that the research group depends on
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of backend development in Python, JavaScript, or comparable modern languages
- Hands-on experience with high-scale systems and large datasets
- Track record shipping and operating production services at a SaaS company
- Comfort driving projects independently — scoping, designing, building, and shipping without close supervision
- AI-first mindset: you reach for LLMs and agentic tooling as a default part of how you work
Bonus Points for
- Background at a cybersecurity startup
- Malware analysis or reverse engineering experience (obfuscation, encryption, time bombs, sandboxing)
- Web penetration testing
- Active CTF player
- ETL pipeline experience
- Redis, Postgres, Kafka
