About the Role

Preferred Materials is seeking a skilled CDL Grading Equipment Operator to join our Asphalt & Construction team. In this role, you’ll operate heavy machinery—including graders, dozers, rollers, loaders, and excavators—to prepare and grade surfaces for construction projects. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our job sites meet project specifications while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

This position involves hands-on, physical work in outdoor environments and requires the ability to perform essential tasks in varying weather conditions.

What You’ll Do

• Operate heavy equipment (loaders, rollers, excavators, dozers, graders) to move earth, excavate, and grade surfaces.

• Cut grades, slopes, and ditches according to project specifications.

• Perform routine equipment maintenance, minor servicing, and cleaning.

• Coordinate machine movements with crew members using hand or audio signals.

• Identify underground utilities before beginning work.

• Monitor operations to ensure compliance with safety standards and avoid hazards.

• Track equipment usage, materials, and any issues encountered.

• Maintain proper PPE and follow OSHA/MSHA regulations.

• Use a computer or tablet for timesheet entry and plan reading.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or higher

• Preferred: 2+ years of heavy equipment operation experience

• Preferred: Valid CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within 90 days)

• Strong communication skills and ability to work well with crew and foreman

• Demonstrated commitment to safety

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
