Responsibilities:
- Drive modernization of legacy mainframe applications (Assembler and COBOL) with a strong focus on developer experience (DX), automation, and DevOps adoption
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for mainframe workloads, integrating legacy systems into modern DevOps and platform engineering practices
- Enable AI‑assisted development and modernization, including the use of AI for code analysis, refactoring, documentation, test generation, and modernization acceleration
- Partner with platform, DevOps, and SRE teams to embed observability, reliability, and security into modernized mainframe applications
- Capture and codify legacy system knowledge to enable AI‑driven insights and ensure knowledge is accessible to the next generation of engineers
- Serve as a technical leader and advocate for modern engineering practices on the mainframe, mentoring teams and helping shift culture toward automation‑first and continuous delivery models
Requirements:
- 8+ years of mainframe transactional, batch, and core processing systems. Demonstrated success modernizing, refactoring, or translating legacy codebases into modern architectures or languages
- 5+ years of experience with modern software development practices, including version control, structured testing, and CI/CD pipelines
- 5+ years of experience with modern languages (e.g., Java, Python), API‑based architectures, cloud or hybrid environments, and enterprise integration patterns
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience
- In order to be considered, you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
- Experience collaborating across architecture, platform, DevOps, and application teams in large enterprise environments
- Ability to analyze complex systems with limited documentation and clearly articulate legacy logic to modern engineering teams
- Experience in the financial services industry
