ABC Fitness is the #1 software provider for fitness businesses of any size, all around the world. The Senior Principal DevOps Engineer I will define and drive the technical strategy for automation and developer experience on AWS, while collaborating across engineering teams to improve developer productivity and system reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the technical strategy for automation and developer experience on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Champion developer self-service by building and driving adoption of paved-road platform capabilities, reusable templates, and opinionated automation while maintaining security and governance
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, driving platform initiatives end-to-end while collaborating effectively across engineering teams
- Promote inner source practices by creating shared platform components, reference implementations, and contribution models that enable development teams to build on common foundations
- Design extensible platform services and automation patterns that scale with a growing enterprise and evolving AI-assisted engineering use cases
- Lead the adoption and technical direction of AI-enabled developer platform capabilities, including self-service workflows, intelligent automation, and safe adoption of generative AI across the software development lifecycle
- Establish platform capabilities and feedback loops that systematically identify and reduce patterns of instability across environments
- Drive measurable improvements in developer productivity, software delivery performance, and system reliability across the organization
- Collaborate with management and team leads (Product Owners, Architects, DBAs, Development, Analysts) to create solutions and document direction in an agile development environment
- Provide guidance for development staff on cloud-native and secure coding best practices
- Participate as an escalation contact in an on-call rotation providing support for production outages and incidents
Requirements:
- Deep Amazon Web Services (AWS) expertise
- Strong expertise in containerized service infrastructure based on Kubernetes (EKS)
- Expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Helm, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Experience building and evolving modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Experience operating and improving highly available, large-scale production environments
- Experience deploying, managing, and monitoring stateless microservices and serverless solutions
- Experience defining reusable golden paths, shared services, and platform standards, and driving their adoption across engineering teams
- Experience evaluating and integrating AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows to improve developer productivity, software quality, and operational efficiency
- Experience influencing technical direction and driving platform adoption across multiple teams or business units
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, identifying high-impact problems and driving them to resolution
- Track record of pragmatic problem solving, strong engineering judgement, and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to balance business outcomes with platform goals and standards; understanding that perfection is often the enemy of progress
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
- Proven track record of diagnosing complex system issues and leading root cause analysis for environment instability
- Experience working within and securing regulated environments (e.g. PCI, SOC, GDPR)
- Experience building and scaling software in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Java, Typescript)
- Experience with AI/ML platform patterns or applying LLM-enabled tooling to software engineering workflows (e.g. developer tooling, prompt-driven automation, retrieval-based assistants)
