CREAF is seeking for a support technician to work in the ECOFONTS (Seguiment a llarg termini dels ecosistemes fontinals de Catalunya), with ref. 90041 funded by Departament de Territori, Habitag I Transició Ecològica, STOIKOS project (Ecologia elemental: cap a una ecologia funcional basada en els elements) with ref. 61825 and funded by European Commission and BRYOELEM project (Composició elemental de briòfits per investigar la competència I colonizació de plantes terrestres) with ref. PID2023-152149NA-I00 and funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades.
The position is intended to cover a temporary sick leave and involves laboratory work, including the identification of freshwater diatoms and support to the research team with sample grinding, acid digestions, functional trait measurements and water analyses. The selected candidate will contribute to projects investigating the effects of global change on freshwater ecosystems, as well as to studies examining the role of elemental composition in ecosystem functioning, working within a multidisciplinary research environment with opportunities for professional development and collaboration.
A Part-time contract (18.75 hours/week) is offered. Immediate start. The position is intended to cover a temporary sick leave for a minimum period of three months, with the possibility of extension. The offered salary is € 12.323,46 gross per year (corresponding to category T4B).
MAIN FUNCTIONS:
Preparation and identification of freshwater diatom samples.
Water analysis in the laboratory.
Cleaning, grinding and acid digestion of plant samples.
Providing clean and validated final datasets to the research team investigators.
Contributing to the main objectives of the research team, including fieldwork and participation in projects led by other team members.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Environmental Biology, Forestry Engineering or a related field.
Advanced knowledge of diatom identification (demonstrable).
Experience and interest in research (e.g. BSc or MSc thesis).
Versatility and willingness to collaborate with all members of the team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good command of English and Catalan, both spoken and written. A good level of Spanish is highly desirable.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Ecology, Conservation or Environmental Sciences.
Priority will be given to candidates with a recognized and certified disability of 33% or higher, provided that the disability is compatible with the proper performance of the position.
