Accelera Solutions is seeking a Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) Engineer responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server clusters and infrastructure critical for hosting SQL services for customer-managed databases. This role ensures secure, compliant, and high-performing database services that align with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) mission.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server clusters to support enterprise applications
- Perform queries, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on hosted customer databases
- Configure and deliver DBaaS offerings per Service Level Agreements (SLA), including:
- Windows and Microsoft SQL server/cluster management
- Microsoft SQL instance management with role-based access control
- Monitoring using RedGate SQL Monitor
- Microsoft SQL licensing management
- Encryption of hosted data
- Conduct performance tuning to optimize database availability and speed
- Manage database recovery and restoration as needed to support business continuity
- Collaborate with engineering, platform, and backup/storage teams to align services with mission requirements
Requirements:
- 15+ years of professional experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration and database engineering
- A minimum of 3 years' Federal experience, preferably DoD. Military experience counts toward this requirement if IT work
- Hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and 2019, including clustering and high availability
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration in support of Microsoft SQL infrastructure
- Experience with RedGate SQL Monitor and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and optimize performance
- Strong knowledge of database encryption, security, and recovery methods
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across technical teams and customer stakeholders
- At least one relevant industry certification such as Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
- Hands-on experience with MariaDB
- Active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain)
- At least one relevant industry certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or a Microsoft SQL Server database certification
- Experience with cloud-hosted SQL solutions, such as Microsoft Azure SQL and Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service (AWS RDS), and hybrid integrations
- Prior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or DHA enterprise healthcare IT programs
- Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance and database-specific Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs)
