The University of Texas Medical Branch is a health system dedicated to providing comprehensive financial services. The Senior Financial Analyst will perform complex financial analysis, supervise fiscal group activities, and support various financial reporting and budgeting processes.
Responsibilities:
- To perform complex financial analysis and to provide supervisory guidance in a fiscal group of the Medical Branch
- Health System Accounting provides financial accounting, analysis, and reporting services for UTMB Hospitals and Clinics, UTMB Academic Enterprise related to the Practice Plan net patient care revenue, and UTMB HealthCare Systems
- Our accounting functions include preparing and posting entries for month-end close, reviewing financial data, assisting with audit requests, and supporting UTMB departments regarding financial data requests and questions concerning financial statements
- Analysis also includes variance explanations between actual and budget and prior periods, volume, and rate variances, assisting with the annual budget process, and other analyses as requested
- Our reporting function includes preparation and review of various internal and external financial reports, including coordinating and completing health system-related surveys
- May function as a team lead to coordinate, prepare, and analyze complex financial and operational reports, financial statements, scorecards, metrics, benchmarks, budgets, and financial forecasts
- Performs advanced analysis of historical and projected financial and operational data to provide leadership information to make relevant financial decisions
- Coordinates the preparation of information to support developing trends that will inform forecasts and management decision-making
- Identify and utilize technology and tools such as Datamart or Power BI to query and extract data for both scheduled and ad-hoc reports, ensuring timely analysis and delivery of insights
- Analyze and research data discrepancies by coordinating with relevant teams to ensure consistency and alignment
- Assess existing business processes, workflows, and systems to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Developing recommendations and implementing changes to optimize processes and enhance the member experience
- Performs quality assurance functions of financial data and statistical information
- Serves as a mentor to other Financial Analysts
- Remains current with and progressively learns industry trends, analytical techniques, and appropriate financial systems necessary to complete essential job functions
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
- Performs related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent in a related field
- Four (4) years of related experience in a financial or related field
- Experience with Business Intelligence platforms (Power BI, PowerPivot, data mart, etc.)
- Ability to ingest data from multiple sources, work with SQL tables and create/write reports
- Proficient with financial accounting, budgeting, cost accounting/reporting, and financial statistical reporting
- Data analytics, reasoning, report design, and manipulation of multiple databases
- Ability to analyze details, report, develop, and present recommendations to promote fiscal health using problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Proficient in all MS Office applications; demonstrated advanced functionality of Excel and Access
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, reasoning skills, and ability to articulate logic behind decisions
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of health service delivery
- Experience in Health Systems and Academic Medicine is desirable
- CPA and/or MBA
- Experience with Power BI, PeopleSoft FMS, Epic Billing, and/or Hyperion
