Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. is a leader in North America's power systems and is seeking a Principal Engineer in Protection & Control. The role involves leading business growth in consulting services, managing client relationships, and providing expert technical guidance in power system studies.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary lead for growing MEPPI's Protection & Control consulting business by identifying market needs and shaping service offerings
- Contribute to long-term strategies that expand the company's presence and influence within the protection and control domain
- Support and develop external client relationships while providing expert technical guidance to internal stakeholders
- Serve as the lead Subject Matter Expert, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions and sustained excellence in consulting and system studies
- Apply extensive experience in designing and analyzing protection systems for transmission networks and distribution systems
- Manage protection challenges related to inverter-based resources (IBRs) and large-scale electrical loads
- Utilize industry-standard simulation tools to support complex protection studies
- Demonstrate advanced skills in ASPEN OneLiner, PSS CAPE, and PSCAD
- Maintain a strong presence in the industry to reinforce MEPPI's position as a thought leader
- Actively engage in key organizations and events, such as NERC, IEEE Power System Relaying and Control (PSRC), and major protective relaying conferences or similar venues
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electric power engineering, or equivalent technical discipline, and a minimum of 10 years of experience in power systems studies consulting field, electric utility system planning, or T&D manufacturer's application engineering, or equivalent education and experience in areas key to the position
- Advanced knowledge of EROs, developers, and public and investor-owned utility business planning flow as related to initial feasibility, planning, engineering, implementation, and operations stages
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and resource/capacity/strategy assessment
- General knowledge of asset and operations management, environmental policy, and system hardening
- Advanced organization, presentation, communication, and technical writing skills
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously
- Advanced computer skills with emphasis on MS Office products
- Advanced knowledge of the following tools/software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related; ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD, PSS CAPE, and related
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards and guides (NERC, IEEE, etc)
